South Point To Re-Brand Online Poker Product

Published by on July 22, 2013

CardPlayer.com – South Point Hotel Casino and Spa, located in Las Vegas, once looked like it was going to run the first completely legal online poker site in the state of Nevada. Months and months later, and after being leapfrogged into the market by Ultimate Poker, an offshoot of Station Casinos, South Point reportedly will re-brand its online gambling product as “Real Gaming.”

It’s unclear if the name change was in anticipation of offering other games besides just poker. A request for comment from a South Point spokesperson went unanswered on Monday.

About a year ago, South Point was the first internet gaming licensee in the Silver State. Online poker became legal in Nevada in 2011. New Jersey and Delaware also have legal web gaming.

Right now, the casino offers a free-play product under the brand South Point Poker. It’s unclear if that platform will be phased out once real-money gaming begins on the in-house Real Gaming software, or whether it will continue to exist as a way for players in other states to play legally.

Zen Entertainment is the software provider for South Point Poker.

South Point hasn’t commented on the status of its technology testing by Nevada regulators and the independent testing lab, but that process has presumably been slow, hence the delay.
