Jamie Gold’s 2006 WSOP Bracelet Auctioned Off For Over $65k

Published by on August 5, 2013

CarbonPoker.com News – After winning the 2006 WSOP Main Event along with $12 million, Jamie Gold has had his poker career put on display in front of the world. And the results have been less than stellar since he lost a boatload of money on High Stakes Poker and has only earned around $145k in tournaments since ’06. Along with this, a former business partner named Crispin Leyser sued him for half of the $12 million and eventually agreed to an out-of-court settlement.

Taking everyting into account, it’s little surprise that people thought the worst when Gold’s 2006 Main Event bracelet was given to Heritage Auctions, billed as the “World’s Largest Collectibles Auctioneer.” Following an auction that began on July 13th, the three-week affair ended this weekend, with a Chicago buyer purchasing the bracelet for $65,725.

Interestingly enough, Gold said that he wasn’t the person who listed the WSOP band with Heritage Auctions. He was pretty vague over the details due to legal matters. However, Gold did say, “I’m actually not auctioning it, it’s completely out of my control. It’s a legal issue, I would never purposely auction it.” He added, “It’s really sad, I wish it wasn’t happening. But it’s not in my control and I have nothing to do with it.”

Despite his grief over the bracelet being sold, Gold seems to still be doing okay in the gaming world. He’s working with Island Breeze Casino down in Palm Beach, Florida. Gold is doing promotional work for the casino and is going to be the face of their poker room too. However, he did mention one more piece of drama in his life too, which involves taxes on his poker winnings. “If you play at a high enough level, they think that you should be taxed on your winnings and not on your losses. And not allowed to take your losses against that,” he said.

Jamie Gold continues to be a big story in the poker world, though not always for the most flattering reasons. But hopefully this new deal with Island Breeze Casino works out for him so people stop speculating about his financial status.
